A gin company is raising the morale of York – and raising much-needed funds for a St Leonard’s Hospice at the same time.
York Gin’s Friday Night Gin is a fun quiz held on their Facebook page at what they call gin o’clock – 6pm.
It’s hosted by two of the York Gin shop team who are missing chatting about all things gin to customers. The pair – Susannah Baines and Jo Hird – were described by a viewer at the first Friday Night Gin as the “Reeves and Mortimer” of gin!
The first quiz last Friday (3 April) attracted thousands of views and raised several hundred pounds for St Leonard’s Hospice.
It’s free to watch and take part but there’s a voluntary donation for people to pay what they can.
Charities need support
Susannah said: “It’s a bit of fun to break up the week at the best time of the week – gin o’clock.
“People loved our first quiz. It’s very informal – and it’s going to carry on each week by popular demand.
“As well as giving gin drinkers a bit of fun, it’s really important to get the message out that charities are struggling with the coronavirus crisis.
“Their revenues really are struggling because they can’t do their normal revenue-raising events – so anything people can do is really helpful.”
