A shop which stocked beers from around the world is to close this month.
Hop & Glory was opened by husband and wife Mike and Lois Reid on Front Street, Acomb, in June 2018, stocked with 300 different drinks from Britain and abroad.
But they have posted on social media that the store will close on Saturday 14 March.
“Discounts are available – please pop in to clear our stock,” they wrote. “Thank you for all your support.”
When they opened, Mike said: “People in Acomb want more shops and they want more independent shops like this – that’s the vision for Acomb.”
New venture
Plans were approved last month to convert the shop into a café.
The new café is to be called Ruby’s Coffee House. According to planning documents it will “serve a selection of hot and cold beverages, light brunch, light lunches and cakes and pastries, prepared using domestic appliances comprising a convection oven, toaster, fridge/freezer and a single element grill”.
It would be community-oriented, and provide “an inclusive menu that aims to supplement the existing options for dining in Acomb, fresh food that caters for dietary requirements such as gluten and dairy intolerance, along with the increasing preference for a flexitarian or plant based diet”.
Customers are sad to see Hop & Glory go. “Such a shame – good quality beers and friendly helpful staff,” one wrote.
