Issued by City of York Council

The sixth annual ‘No Wrong Door’ conference is set to take place at York Racecourse next week (Friday 4th October).

This unique event, organised by YorOK (representing all organisations working with children and young people in York) and City of York Council serves as a celebration for the tremendous work undertaken by the child care professionals, volunteers, parents and carers to support children and young people in York.

The conference will bring together over 200 people who work with children and families in the city, sharing the best local and national practice to give early support to families and young people.

The keynote speaker is Ann Hoskins, director of children, young people and families with Public Health England, who will be talking about how prevention is better than cure, recognising that supporting children early reduces difficulties not only now but in the future and serves for an altogether better outcome for the younger generation.

The event will also feature interactive presentations and workshops from young people on promoting good mental health and the benefits gained from their Duke of Edinburgh course by the York Inclusion Group for young people with disabilities, helping them to discover their true potential.

Cllr Janet Looker, Cabinet Member for education, children & young people’s services said “This conference has become a highly important event on my calendar every year now, and I look forward to it every time.

“I feel as a city we have been able to develop our understanding of the issues facing our young people year on year, and with last year’s Children and Young People Plan the partnership between ourselves at the council and the practitioners doing the hard work on the front line across the city is stronger than ever.

“Most importantly, this is a huge positive for the wellbeing of our young people, and is a great example of the good work that the No Wrong Doors conference has achieved.”

Conference venue: Voltigeur suite, Knavesmire Stand, York Racecourse.

The YorOK website provides further information and details for attendance on the conference here.
