York’s biggest river is in flood – but most of the city centre has escaped unscathed.
The River Ouse reached a level of 4.35m at around 6am today (Tuesday), which is the highest since early December 2015.
The Environment Agency said: “The level is steady and expected to start to fall later today. Foss Barrier is operating.”
York’s defences, including a closed Foss Barrier, are working well, limiting the flooding to close to the riverside.
Skeldergate remains closed, and riverside paths are underwater
Most of the city centre is unaffected, and the message is it’s business as usual in York.
