A shop worker has told how he confronted an armed raider who tried to rob his till at knifepoint.
The man defended himself against the knife-brandishing robber with just a stool.
The drama unfolded at the Holgate Bridge Store on Holgate Road at around 1.45pm yesterday afternoon (Wednesday).
A man entered the shop and demanded money from the till.
Speaking to Minster FM, the shop worker – who we aren’t naming – said:
-
I knew he had a very big knife and he kept saying open the till, open the till!
I said I would, but I was worried he would harm me anyway – so I had to defend myself.
So I took this stool behind the counter and I threw it at him. And he started running away.
The raider went to the door and then slashed the knife at the shop worker, cutting him on his left arm. He then fled empty-handed.
Police say he is believed to have made off from the scene on a black mountain bike down Watson Street towards York Station.
