Just days after the confectionery festival of Christmas, a York chocolate shop has revealed it is to close.
Thorntons on Parliament Street has placed a sign in its window saying it will close on Saturday (4 January).
A spokesperson for Thorntons said:

Like many other high-street brands, we are continuously reviewing our store estate to ensure we are in the locations that meet our customer needs. As a result of this review, we have decided to close our York Parliament Street store on the 4th January.
Thorntons has been delighted to serve our many local customers in this store and we would encourage them to shop for their favourite Thorntons products at our York Café store or online at www.thorntons.co.uk in the future.
Now owned by Italian group Ferrero, the Thorntons chain has been posting a loss for some time.
The company’s losses increased by over £7 million according to figures published last summer.
Confectionery News reported that Thorntons went further into the red with a deficit of £38.3 million in the year to August 31, compared with £31.1 million the previous year.
Although the chain has closed a number of stores in the UK to try to stem the losses, it still runs more than 100 branches.
The sign in the window says that its branch at the York Designer Outlet will remain open.
Thorntons began with a sweet shop in Sheffield in 1911.
