Issued by City of York Council
City of York Council in partnership with British Cycling and Sky are pleased to announce that Team Sky cyclist, Ben Swift will be attending Sky Ride York this Saturday, 14 September.
Speaking about the York Sky Ride, Ben said: “Coming from Yorkshire, I am thrilled to be part of Sky Ride York this weekend. It’s a great opportunity to cycle around the city on traffic-free streets and should be a really fun event. There’s so much going on in Yorkshire and with Le Grand Depart in 2014, there’s never been a better time to be on your bike. Look forward to seeing you all there!”
Sky Ride York is a free event for cyclists of all ages and abilities that will take in some of York’s most famous landmarks, including Clifford’s Tower and York Minster.
Ben will be joining Cllr Sonja Crisp, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism who is also taking part in the event and is encouraging residents to do the same, saying: “Sky Ride York is a great chance for people of all ages and cycling abilities to get on their bikes and have fun riding round some of York’s most historic streets on the 5.6km circular route. It also gives people who were inspired by the London 2012 Olympics and the recent British success in the Tour de France the chance to meet a world class cyclist.”
There will be three ‘activation zones’ situated around the route of the Sky Ride – the Team Sky zone with the British Cycling cafe, the Festival of Cycling in Rowntree Park and a third activation zone at Duncombe Place where cyclists can decorate their bikes.
