There was excitement in Shambles today after Christmas shoppers were joined by a film crew today (Wednesday).
They’re shooting a Christmas romcom with the working title Let There Be Love, directed by Mick Davis.
Mr Davis is also a producer and writer, with projects to his name including the TV series Eleventh Hour, Hauting Charles Manson and The Saint.
Several York locations are set to feature. Scenes for the comedy have already been completed at St Peter’s School. Today was the third day of filming.
Crowds gathered in Shambles to see what was going on Members of the public were allowed to walk freely up and down the street as long as they didn’t directly look into the camera.
Shambles makes a perfect festive backdrop for a Christmas romantic comedy. A scene being filmed on the cobbled street was of a Scrooge-like figure chasing children down the street shouting ‘Bah! Humbug!’ after them.
York has recently been a popular filming setting for film and TV – just last year camera crews were in the city filming for BBC drama Gentleman Jack starring Suranne Jones and ITV drama Victoria starring Jenna Coleman.
We won’t see the finished results of this filming for a while though – the romcom isn’t due to be released until next Christmas. But it’s certainly added a buzz of excitement to the festive shoppers.
