Issued by City of York Council
Some of the finest British motor engineering and design will be on display in central York when the Rolls Royce Enthusiasts’ Club, with support from City of York Council, will roll out a fleet of vehicles for all to inspect.
The exhibition is being held by way of thanks to the city for support given to a club member who fell ill at York Racecourse last year.
A range of over 20 Rolls Royce vehicles will be displayed in York’s city centre on Sampson’s Square on Sunday, September 1, as a celebration of great British engineering. City of York Council is supporting the event which will feature both new and vintage Rolls Royces.
Councillor Sonja Crisp, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism said: “We are delighted to welcome the Rolls Royce Enthusiasts Club to our beautiful city to display fine British Engineering from the past and present.
“This new event, which runs from 10.30am to 5pm, will offer the chance for residents and visitors to take a close look over a wide selection of these fabulous vehicles and talk to some of the owners.
“This event adds to a variety of Sunday activities in York city centre, including the Sunday Newgate Market, shopping, restaurants and cultural attractions.
“Funds raised from this event will be donated to York Hospital.”
Over 20 fascinating club cars will be coming along accompanied by around 60 members of the Rolls Royce Enthusiasts Club. These include a beautiful 20hp RR 1928 Barker Tourer and a lovely RR 20hp 1926 Park Ward Saloon.
A new local member from York, John Benson, will be bringing along his “new” car – a Bentley Continental 2006!
The Rolls Royce Enthusiasts Club has organised the visit to York as a big thank you to local members, the city and to York Hospital for the care a club member, Howard Booth, received when he was taken ill at an event at York Racecourse last year.
He was rushed to York Hospital where it was discovered that he had a damaged heart valve. Wife Audrey said: “Howard would have probably died suddenly and without warning, as he didn’t know he had a damaged heart valve. We have a lot to thank York Hospital for.”
Each Rolls Royce will be making a donation to York Hospital for entry into the event.
