He was a huge star of the Eighties – then became an internet sensation.
And now Rick Astley is coming to play York.
The man who hit number one with Never Going To Give You Up will play York Racecourse on Saturday, 25 July 2020.
He will be the headliner during the Music Showcase Weekend. Rick is the first act to be unveiled by the racecourse, with head of marketing James Brennan revealing all to Ben Fry on the Minster FM Breakfast Show.
He is the latest big star to appear at the racecourse, following in the footsteps of Rod Stewart, Scouting For Girls and Paloma Faith.
Tickets start at £25 for the day’s racing and the concert, and you can book them on the racecourse website.
Chart topper
Rick Astley’s era-defining classic Never Gonna Give You Up topped charts the world over and catapulted the 80’s icon on a journey that would encompass 8 consecutive UK Top 10 hits and 40 million sales.
He later became famous throughout the virtual world thanks to Rickrolling – where people pranked their friends into watching the Never Going To Give You Up video.
After stepping aside to focus on his family, he shot back to #1 almost 30 years later with his Platinum-selling album 50. Last month, he released his career-spanning compilation The Best of Me, which also included an independently recorded set of reimagined interpretations of his songs, old and new.
Last year saw Rick complete a 38-date stadium tour as special guest to Take That, during which he played to over 500,000 people.
Showing his mass appreciation across genres, he also graced the main stage of the legendary Reading Festival this summer, performing Never Gonna Give You Up with one of the worlds biggest rock bands, Foo Fighters.
Selling over 100,000 tickets to his own UK headline shows since releasing 50, his forthcoming tour dates include gigs in Australia and Japan as well as his first ever show in New Zealand; before arriving at York Racecourse on 25th July.

Everyone at the course is really excited that a northern boy is set to play York, add in the spectacle of the racing itself and we hope it will prove a great value summer day out.
It promises to be a fun filled summer for racing and music fans as both Saturday 27th June and Friday evening 24th July will also see the combination of racing and live music.
