Bake Off winner David Atherton declared his love of York when he arrived back in the city today.
David, who was brought up in Whitby but now lives in London, said he knew the city well “but I still get lost!”
He said the reaction to the screening of his triumph in The Great British Bake Off had taken him by surprise.
“We finished filming in July and I thought I would be ready for it – but I wasn’t,” he told YorkMix.
David was in York for a book signing in Waterstones. A big gang of Bake Off fans were waiting to meet him – the queue stretched out of the store and along Coney Street, past the entrance to City Screen.
The book, The Big Book Of Amazing Cakes, contains some of David’s recipes alongside those of other contestants in this and previous series – plus of course concoctions by show judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.
