A York theatre company has been chosen to work on an international project dramatising young people’s experience of immigration.
Pilot Theatre will team up with theatres in Canada, Australia, Italy and Portugal for the project Boomerang – Documents of Poverty and Hope.
They are creating new theatre pieces based on young people’s stories about their experiences of emigration and immigration.
Boomerang will produce seven intercontinental co-productions, funded by the European Commission.
This is Pilot Theatre’s fourth European Project working with global partners about one of the key social issues of our times.
They will be offering a range of opportunities for young people to be fully involved in the creative process including cultural exchanges.
“We are delighted to be part of this truly inspiring project, and it will enable us to continue our international work that we have been participating in since 2001,” said Pilot’s artistic director Marcus Romer.
The overall project has been awarded 200,000 Euros in a grant from the European Culture Funding Stream. The theatres who will be working with Pilot Theatre on the project are:
- Elsinore Theatre, Milan
- O Bando, Palmela, Portugal
- Dynamo Theatre, Montreal, Canada
- Presentation House Theatre, Vancouver, Canada
- Australian Theatre for Young People, Sydney
