Shops keep being added to the former BHS store in York.
The latest retailer planning to move into the old department store is digital retailer Game.
Plans have been unveiled to open a new Game Belong Gaming Arena, entered via the Feasegate entrance to the building.
The doors will be next to the entrance to Evans Cycles, which was revealed as one of the other retailers earlier this year.
The Game store will trade from the second floor of the development. A lift will be added to enable wheelchair users to access the shop.
Part of the empire
YorkMix revealed in January that Mike Ashley’s Sports Direct Group had bought the former BHS for £10.75 million.
Work has long been underway to convert units to house a branch of Sports Direct itself, plus other Ashley-owned brands including Evans and fashion retailer USC.
The company has also applied to create a mezzanine floor above Evans.
Game Digital is now also part of the Ashley empire. It agreed to a £52m takeover by the Sports Direct Group in June.
According to Retail Gazette, “Sports Direct has signalled there may be store closures and job losses following the deal amid plans to review Game’s operations and potentially merge some sites into its wider empire”.
That suggests the existing Game, on the corner of Swinegate and Church Street, could close and relocate wholesale to Feasegate.
It was refitted and rebranded as a Belong Gaming Arena last year.
