The Rt Hon The Lord Mayor of York and the Civic Party are welcoming a group of visitors from the city of Münster, one of York’s twin cities, to the Mansion House.
On Monday 5 August, the city will welcome members of the Münster-York Partnershaftsverein, which is the partner to the York-Münster Twinning Association as they make their annual visit to the city.
Members of both twinning associations have been invited to the Mansion House for a welcome drink with the Lord Mayor.
The city of Münster has been twinned with York since 1957, when York became the first city to twin with a German city after the Second World War. The partnership allows residents from the two cities to share in cultural exchanges and learn about the shared histories.
This trip to York follows a recent visit by the Lord Mayor and Civic Party to Münster at the beginning of July, where they met members of the twinning association. On the visit, the Lord Mayor took part in the celebrations to mark the end of the British Army’s stay in Münster and the departure of the Yorkshire Regiment from its barracks in the German city.
The Rt Hon The Lord Mayor of York Cllr Julie Gunnell said: “I am delighted to welcome these visitors to our beautiful city.
“The recent visit to Münster was incredible and the city was very welcoming, something which I know will happen in York. The partnership with Münster is hugely beneficial to the city and it is great that we are welcoming them to our wonderful city.”
