Who will be crowned our champion author of Poems For Children?
A total of 560 poems were submitted by 225 different poets since our competition launched in April.
The judge, Carole Bromley, YorkMix‘s poet in residence, has now selected her Longlist of poems.
A total of 77 poems by 54 poets have made it to Carole’s Longlist. The list includes ten poets from the YO postcode area, and six writers from outside the UK.
In the next few days, Carole will whittle her selections down to 40 poems, which will appear in YorkMix around mid-month.
The winners – including the overall winner, who will receive a prize of £250 – will be announced at an afternoon prize-giving event at York Explore Library on Saturday, August 17.
After publication of the shortlist, prizewinners, highly commended and commended poets will be contacted by the organisers by email.
Here is an alphabetic list of the poets who made it to the Longlist. Poets whose names are asterisked have more than one poem in the list.
The list is followed by an alphabetic list of the selected poems.
