Home security advice
This incident is a timely reminder to householders to ensure their property remains secure, even during hot weather.
DCI Costello said: “Whilst this appears to be an isolated incident it nevertheless highlights the importance for people to think about security measures, especially when the weather is humid.
“I am not suggesting that windows and doors should be fully closed at all times, but people should assess whether the opening would be feasible for someone to enter through and, if it is, can they do so undetected?
“Criminals are opportunistic by nature and are on the look out for easy targets. Please do everything you can to take the opportunity away from them at the outset by securing doors when not in that room and securing windows sufficiently to prevent unwanted entry.
“Taking these basic steps and those such as fitting security lights and burglar alarms, really does make a difference.
“This is the best advice we can offer to people to help keep their property and themselves safe and secure.”
