Part of a global movement of events that share stories of failure, Fuckup nights see four brave entrepreneurs get up in front of a room full of strangers to explain how their own business or project went off the rails.
The speakers, drawn from York businesses, then share what they learned and what they’d do differently if they had their time over.
Businesses that crash and burn, partnership deals that go sour, products that must be recalled… the audience will hear about them all.
The inaugural event, taking place at Micklegate Social on Tuesday 21 May, has been organised by York entrepreneur Lyndon Nicholson.
Massively useful
Lyndon says he first experienced a Fuckup night event in London and loved it:
-
We all make mistakes, so the chance to learn from others and use that new found knowledge to help guide our own endeavours is massively useful.
Most of the world’s major cities have a branch of the event based there, so I wanted to bring them to my home city of York – a place with a lot of new business talent.
The evening will offer attendees the chance to hear fascinating stories and to mingle with a crowd of like-minded people.
Also, if they’re feeling brave, there will be an opportunity to grab the mic during the quickfire ‘open mic’ slots, where members of the audience can volunteer their own one-minute Fuckup stories.
