Police cordoned off Micklegate after a suspicious package was sent to a property on the street.
The street has now reopened. It was closed for about 90 minutes between Trinity Lane and Micklegate Bar. Toft Green past Fibbers was also cordoned off.
The army Bomb Disposal unit of the Royal Logistics Corp were called to the scene. They parked outside the Brigantes pub next to the Army recruiting office.
A North Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said the cordon was put in place “at the request of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) after a suspicious item was received at a property on the road”.
They asked members of the public to avoid the area “while an investigation into the package is carried out”.
That work has now finished and the cordon was lifted at about 2.20pm.
The police spokeswoman said:
-
It was a genuine call from a concerned member of the public who received an item which they deemed as suspicious in the post at a property on Micklegate.
Following an investigation by EOD the item was not deemed as dangerous and the cordon was lifted.
