A man was left with serious stab wounds in an attack on New Year’s Day – but no charges are being brought in connection with the incident.
Three people were arrested after the man was discovered with injuries to his back caused by a “bladed weapon” in Swann Street, off Nunnery Lane, at 9.10am on January 1.
The Yorkshire Air Ambulance was scrambled, taking the victim to Leeds General Infirmary.
Another man was arrested after an armed raid in Lowther Street later the same day.
Now though, all those arrested have been released without charge and North Yorkshire Police are taking no further action.
No wider threat
Police say they have to close the case because no formal complaint had been received.
A force spokeswoman said:
-
Officers have explored all avenues of prosecution and have carried out extensive inquiries into this serious offence.
However, no formal complaint has been received and without this and other pieces of vital evidence, we are unable to take a criminal prosecution further.
To reassure members of the public, we believe that there was no threat to the wider community during or as a result of this incident.
The victim has since been discharged from hospital.
