New man Garry Jones outside York CVS HQ in Priory StreetVolunteer organisation York CVS has a new boss – Garry Jones. Garry, who joined CVS in 2012 as support and development manager, beat off stiff competition from around the country to be appointed chief executive.
Chair of the board of trustees Rosemary Suttill said: “Trustees were delighted to offer the position of Chief Executive to one of their own staff. York CVS faces an exciting future with Garry at the helm.
“He brings with him a great deal of experience of working in regional and national charities. This experience, along with his detailed knowledge of CVS puts him in a great position to help us lead the organisation.”
Garry will take over from Angela Portz on July 5 when she leaves to start a new career as a self-employed advisor and consultant to the voluntary sector.
Garry said he was delighted to be appointed. “The voluntary sector is facing many challenges and a strong CVS is absolutely necessary to ensure we all continue to serve the people of York, especially those facing disadvantage and injustice.
“I am really looking forward to working with this extremely skilled team, the members of CVS and the wider voluntary sector and other partners.”
York Council for Voluntary Service aims to improve the quality of life of the citizens of York through voluntary action. It does this by developing, supporting and promoting the work of voluntary organisations and community groups and helping them to be as effective and sustainable as possible.
