York headteacher John Tomsett appeared before a teacher conduct panel today (Monday).
He faces two charges, both relating to his time working at Eastbourne Sixth Form College in the early 1990s.
The first is that he failed to maintain professional boundaries by engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a student.
The second is that he engaged in a sexual relationship with the same pupil during the summer in which she received her A-level results.
According to the TES website:
-
John Tomsett admitted to having a sexual relationship with his former pupil in the summer after her A levels, but his barrister said it was not a case of professional misconduct, nor did it bring the teaching profession into disrepute.
Mr Tomsett, head of Huntington School, is facing the charges before a panel at the office of the Teaching Regulation Agency in Coventry.
He has taken a leave of absence from his Huntington post.
The woman involved cannot be named for legal reasons. The hearing is expected to last all week.
