York firefighters were called out to two river rescues in the early hours of Tuesday (October 2).

In the first, at 2.05am, crews from York, Acomb and Huntington were called out after a woman got into difficulties.

She had climbed a steel structure beside the Ouse on Queens Staith. Firefighters reached her and brought her to safety using an aerial ladder platform.

Later at 5.24am, crews from York and Acomb were called out after reports of a man in the River Foss, off Walmgate.

The York Rescue Boat team were also called out and joined the search for the man.

Witnesses at the scene said that the man had got out of the river shortly before the arrival of fire crews and the search was called off.
