After another amazing victory, York City Knights were crowned kings of Betfred League 1 – clinching automatic promotion.
The Knights secured champion status after their 32-14 win over playoff hopefuls Whitehaven on Saturday afternoon (September 23).
The final whistle heralded champagne celebrations as the squad and the back room staff took to Bootham Crescent to lift the trophy in front of ecstatic fans.
It capped a brilliant season for the Knights, who were given odds of 10-1 to take the title at the start. Masterminded by head coach James Ford, the team have played scintillating rugby, broken points records and won 24 out of their 26 matches.
They finished two points ahead of their nearest rivals, rugby league legends the Bradford Bulls.
It sees them promoted into the Championship, the second-tier of the sport.
The promotion sparked a wave of celebratory videos and congratulations on social media.
