And the stores themselves are joining in the fun with some brilliant bargains, available all day.
It’s all part of the Love Yor-k High Street campaign, led by Stephanie Green, store manager of Crabtree & Evelyn on Stonegate.
With the support of York BID, Minster FM and Make It York city centre manager Chris Price, she has organised a retailing roadshow in King’s Square on Saturday (September 22).
Roadshow and discounts
The roadshow is a showcase of city shopping, aiming to remind everyone what a fantastic place York is for retail, despite many of the pressures high streets are facing.
Participating businesses will be offering extra treats for customers on the day such as free gifts, discounts and special offers.
These include
Crabtree & Evelyn – 50% off everything in when you quote ‘Minster FM’
Monsoon – 10% off any full price purchase
Cuffs & Co – a free £5 voucher to spend in store
Abraham Moon – 20% off
Bistro Guy – 10% off breakfast and lunches
Festival of Fun – 10% off in any purchase in store
The campaign
Stephanie Green said the idea was to highlight and celebrate local businesses in York:
-
We all know the challenges facing British High Streets today and while we are very fortunate in York to have a very proactive support network from various channels, there are still areas in which we need Government assistance.
We also want to encourage the public to show their support to local businesses by visiting their local High Street regularly to ensure our fabulous city remains a healthy and thriving place to shop, work, eat and live.
Stephanie has set up a petition calling on the government to urgently review and reform the current business rates system.
This would create a level playing field for all businesses. You can sign it here.
And the campaign asks York residents to do four things:
- Think local (look to your high street first rather than online only)
- Shop local (spend money in your local high street)
- Support local (jobs)
- Enjoy local (experiences you cannot get online!)
So go out, spend and save this Saturday – it’s all for a brilliant cause.
