More than 60 businesses have pledged to show their support for York Pride after a campaign by the BID.

Street rangers from York’s Business Improvement District (BID) toured the city centre asking businesses to fly the York Pride flag during the week of Pride.

This display will show support for the LGBT Community and emphasise their commitment to equality and diversity.

Incredible support

Among the 60-plus companies across the BID area who have agreed to show their support are businesses on Blake Street, Davygate, Parliament Street, High Ousegate, Low Ousegate, Bridge Street and Skeldergate.

(And one of them is YorkMix.)

Chair of York Pride Greg Stephenson said:

It is incredible to see this level of support for Pride from York businesses and we are very thankful for the support from York BID.

One of our key areas of focus for this year was emphasising the incredibly diverse and inclusive nature of York’s community, and working with BID has helped us achieve this.

It will be fantastic to see York so colourful and so many organisation’s flying the flag as the parade passes through the city on the day.

Fantastic diversity

Operations Manager for York BID Elliot Sawyer said the BID is proud to support this year’s York Pride event.

“York Pride is a fantastic example of diversity in the city, and the huge number of BID businesses showing their support is testament to the fact,” Elliot said.

“The BID’s Street Rangers have supported Pride’s parade officer team by building business engagement, fostering community spirit and wearing their very own, hand-stitched rainbow epaulettes.”
