A teenager has been expelled from a York school for dealing drugs.

The Year 11 student was permanently excluded from Bootham School after admitting being involved in dealing illegal drugs.

Although the age of the student has not been confirmed, Year 11 pupils are either 15 or 16.

North Yorkshire Police have been informed and are conducting an investigation.

A spokesperson for Bootham School said:

We can confirm that a year 11 pupil has been permanently excluded from Bootham School after admitting being involved in the supply of illegal drugs outside school.

There is no evidence known to us that drugs have been brought on to school premises.

The school called the police on Friday (May 25) and an investigation is underway.

Bootham School headteacher Chris Jeffery said:

We have found no evidence at all to suggest that any drugs were brought onto the school site or handed over there.

We do know that money was handed over for possible supply later, outside school.

Bootham School remains committed to ensuring that its site is a drugs-free environment, and will continue to act as decisively as it has done in response to any future behaviour that threatens that commitment.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Police are aware of an incident at Bootham school involving suspected drug dealing.

“Officers were called to the school on the morning on Friday 25 May and are fully investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“Anyone who has seen anything suspicious in the school, or who has any concerns about any pupils at the school, are asked to contact police. Dial 101, press 1 and ask to speak to the Force Control Room.”
