Dating back to 1640, the Eagle & Child has a venerable history.
So when you come to giving it a makeover, you do so with care.
And that’s exactly what Camerons Brewery have done. The Eagle & Child on High Petergate has been closed for a while as it underwent a refurb, and now the scaffolding has come down we can all enjoy the results.
The bar itself has been reconfigured. Softer seating has been brought in throughout the pub, replacing some of the hard wooden seating.
New look beer garden
It has been redecorated, and the beer garden has been overhauled to make it a lot more hospitable.
In terms of the food and drink, little has changed. “We will be stocking the same range of spirits, wines, house beers and guest beers as usual,” said Bill Herbert, one of the management team.
That includes, of course, Leeds Brewery beers – although the brewery sold the Eagle & Child to Camerons in 2016, it still plays a prominent role in the pub.
The pub reopens on Thursday (October 5). And on Friday the Eagle & Child launches a new night called Beer and Beats, a monthly tap takeover and music event.
This time Northern Monk Brew Co from Leeds provide the beers, and YO1 Soundsystem, a local collective of DJs playing funk, soul and jazz, offer up the entertainment.
