The family of Katie Rough have released unseen pictures of their little girl as they prepare for a fundraising challenge in her memory.
With a huge smile in all of the photographs, Katie is shown enjoying a trip to the park, with her beloved pet, winning at the fair and feeding a baby.
Katie died aged seven in Woodthorpe, York, in January. A 16-year-old girl admitted killing her at Leeds Crown Court last month, and will be sentenced in early September.
Then, on September 10, family and friends will take part in the Great North Run – ‘running for Katie’.
Helping other children
Among those taking part in the 13.1 mile-run from Newcastle to South Shields are Katie’s dad Paul, sister Bethany, grandad Steven, aunties Sarah Nockels and Sarah Thornhill, uncles Steve and Pete, and family friend Téba Diatta.

As #TeamRough say on their fundraising page: “We want to honour Katie and leave an amazing legacy in her name.”
They are raising funds for a Compassion charity project in Uganda, “supporting a 7 year old girl called Pross and a 7 year old boy called King.
“If we can help another child or children overcome poverty and adversity, at least some good will come out of our loss.”
Help the family give Pross and King a better life
‘Kind loving and generous’
Running the GNR will give them a positive focus and strengthen our bond, said #TeamRough.
“Katie was such a special person, kind, loving and generous and we want her memory to live on, so that others all around the world will know about her and hear how she is inspiring and changing lives!”

Both children, Pross and King, are 7 the same age as Katie when she died.
We need to get to £6,000 to pay the children’s education and medical bills, via the Charity Compassion UK – so a further £1,600 is needed.
All donations are welcome at the charity page here.
