How well do you know your children’s stories?
Do you know your owls from your dragons? Well, we’ll soon find out…
We have teamed up with Explore York Libraries and Archives to bring you this quiz – and celebrate the start of this year’s Summer Reading Challenge.
And as the challenge has an animal theme, we have centred all the questions around the creatures that feature in some classic books of childhood.
Animal antics
The Summer Reading Challenge asks children to crack the puzzle of the peculiar happenings in York’s libraries.
Special detectives The Animal Agents are on the case but they need children to take part in this year’s challenge to solve the mystery!
To do this, sign up in any library. Everyone aged five and over needs to read six books over the summer holidays and will get prizes for each book read with a medal and certificate for reading all six.
Under-fives aren’t left out. They get a sticker card and collect a sticker for each book read. When they have six stickers they get a certificate.
Best of all it is free to take part.
As well as the challenge there are lots of other events over the holidays. You can…
- come and meet animals
- find out how to look after your cat
- try animation, magic and juggling
- and catch the Book Burglar.
Sessions can be booked through any library in person. You can get information on all the events in via the Animal Agents booklet from any library, or on the Explore website.
Fiona Williams, Chief Executive of Explore, said:
The Summer Reading Challenge helps us to do this and we know that children who have taken part have enjoyed it and grown in confidence with their reading.
