North Yorkshire Police are taking steps to reassure the public in the wake of another terror atrocity.

Seven people were killed and 48 injured after three attackers drove a van into crowds on London Bridge and then stabbed people on a night out in nearby Borough Market.

Superintendent Dave Hannan of North Yorkshire Police described this attack, and the bombing in Manchester less than a week earlier, as “truly devastating”.

Nationally the threat level remains at Severe.

“There is no intelligence to suggest that there has been any change in the level of threat here in North Yorkshire,” Supt Hannan said.

“However, I would like to reassure the public that we will be conducting additional patrols and remain visible to our communities.

“We also continue to ask the public to be vigilant and to report anything that they deem to be suspicious immediately.”

To do so either:

  • tell a police officer
  • call 101
  • or call the Anti-Terrorist Hotline on 0800 789 321

Safety advice

The advice issued by the Metropolitan Police an hour after the latest London attack

Supt Hannan said: “If you get caught up in the rare event of a weapons attack we urge you to follow the Run, Hide, Tell advice.

“On behalf of North Yorkshire Police I would like express my deepest sympathy to everyone affected by last night’s tragic events.

“Also, our thoughts go out to colleagues at the Metropolitan Police and other emergency services who have worked throughout the night and into this morning in extremely challenging circumstances.”
