York is rallying round the two York girls who lost their parents in the Manchester bombing.

Angelika and Marcin Klis died when they went to Manchester Arena to pick up their daughters after the Ariana Grande concert.

They leave behind two daughters. The elder daughter Alex is a York College student, and she has a younger sister who goes to school in the city.

Now their many friends in the city are fundraising to support them.

The fundraising campaigns

Russells restaurant

Alex worked at the Russells of Coppergate restaurant.

Owner Chris Gardner told YorkMix:

Alex used to work for us at Russells.

So we are all very upset and thoughts and prayers are with the two girls and family.

He has set up a JustGiving crowdfunding page aiming to raise £5,000 to help the two sisters.

York taxi drivers

Marcin Klis worked at York Cars Taxi Service. Together with Ebor Cars, the company has set up its own crowdfunding page at JustGiving, with a target of £2,000. They wrote:

The taxi community are deeply shocked and saddened by the events in Manchester.

We would like to help Marcin and Angelika’s daughters as much as possible.

Friend of the family

Donna Kennelly, whose daughter went to primary school with the younger daughter, has a £5,000 GoFundMe fundraising appeal for them both.

Donna wrote:

There are no words to describe what they must be going through.

I know money will do nothing to ease their pain however want them to know they are supported by the community.

Friends of Alex

And three friends of Alex Klis – Chloe Long, Millie Spray and Yaren Kaya – have already raised more than £5,000 on their JustGiving page.

Yaren wrote:

Please help us raise money for Alex and her family for the tragic loss of her parents in the Manchester Arena attack.

The Polish community

York Polish organisations (Polacy w Yorku, Polonia w York and www.york.net.pl) have joined together for their own fundraising initiative via their GoFundMe page.

It is organised by Pawel Ptaszynski who stays with direct contact with the girls and received their formal acceptance for the fundraising and use of pictures.

They say

The Polish community in York would like to support the two daughters of Marcin and Angelika by establishing this fundraising action just to take off some pain off their young shoulders.
