Jane Eyre has been loved by generations of fiction fans because of her fearlessness.
With her defiance of social norms and indomitable spirit, Jane is a very modern heroine – despite being 170 years old.
Now the National Theatre have brought Charlotte Brontë’s masterpiece to the stage in a bold new production – which comes to the Grand Opera House from May 22.
Still set in Victorian times, it is an imaginative retelling of the story for contemporary audiences – complete with the dropping of the F-bomb at one point.
