Man airlifted to hospital after falling from York Station clock

A man was seriously hurt after climbing on to the clock at York Railway Station – and falling on to the pavement below.

Emergency services were called to the incident at about 10.20am today (Wednesday).

Witnesses were shocked to see the man climb on to the clock on the outside of the station.

Treated at the scene

Police closed off Queen Street and Station Road.

After the man fell he was treated at the scene by paramedics for around an hour.

They then moved him by stretcher to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, which had landed in the grounds of the Principal York Hotel.

He was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary with a serious head injury.

A spokeswoman for British Transport Police said:

We were called at 10.19am to reports of a man falling from a clock outside York station.

A man has been taken by air ambulance to hospital for treatment to his injuries.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokeswoman for Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust said:

We received a call from the British Transport Police at 10.28am this morning to reports of a male who had fallen from the clock at York Station.

We sent an emergency care practitioner, clinical supervisor, ambulance and the air ambulance to the scene.

Police have since reopened the roads leading to the station.
