York police are investigating after an arson attack at a local school.
Officers have released CCTV images of a man suspected of setting light to an industrial-sized waste bin at All Saints RC School, on Mill Mount Lane, at around 7am on Saturday 19 January 2013.
The suspect was seen to cycle into the school grounds around the time of the fire and officers would like to speak to him about the incident.
The fire caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage to the bin store area.
Anyone who recognises the suspect – who was wearing a distinctive black hooded top with a pattern on the back – or has any information about the incident, is urged to contact the police or Crimestoppers.
PC Pete McFarlane, of York West Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “This was a mindless act of vandalism which has needlessly cost the school money to have the damage repaired.
“I am appealing to anyone who recognises the suspect in the images we have released, or as any other information that can help the investigation to get in touch as soon as possible.”
Anyone who can help officers with their enquiries is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 2 – and ask for Pete McFarlane or York West Safer Neighbourhood Team.
If you wish to remain anonymous, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
