It’s bus travel, Jim, but not as we know it…
These sleek new buses are part of the new £2.3 million Coastliner fleet, launched by Transdev in the shadow of York Minster.
As well as looking super-smart, the ten British-built vehicles are also packed with innovative features, including fast and free 4G wifi, USB power points at every seat and ‘skylight’ roof panels.
They are also a greener ride, featuring low emission Euro 6 engines. And the longer bodyshell gives more space to passengers, while being 616 kilos (97 stone) lighter than the bus it replaces.
Coastliner buses take countless passengers from York to Whitby, Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington every year.
Rolling promotion
As well as transporting them in greater comfort than ever, the buses will act as a great promotion for city, country and coast.
The new livery and a campaign of ‘Coastliner Country’ will promote the fantastic destinations on the route, including York and Malton.
Transdev CEO Alex Hornby said:
Their introduction marks a new era for bus travel across Yorkshire, bringing luxury travel to this popular and high-profile service.
Revolutionary travel
Alex said every aspect of the design has been inspired by customer feedback.
“We examined every detail of the journey from the moment a passenger steps on board to the very end of their journey with us,” he said.
“And the features which these new buses bring to life add up to a revolution in comfort, style and convenience for each and every journey with us.”
Coastliner runs every 30 minutes on Monday to Saturday between Leeds, York and Malton, with hourly services to and from Scarborough, Pickering and Thornton-le-Dale, plus daily services to and from Whitby, Filey and Bridlington.
