There will be a chance to marvel at exactly how the icy statues are created with this year’s live carving sessions. The demonstrations take place at St Helen’s Square on both Saturday and Sunday at 3pm.

The trail also includes the chance to enjoy a drink at the Principal York Hotel’s ice bar, located at their Chapter House Bar Terrace.

Glacial Art artists have been working on York’s statues for the last three months.

Creative director Matt Foster said:

The York Ice Trail is the highlight of our year.

We have hand carved over eight tonnes of ice to spread the magic all across the city. It is the biggest event of its kind in the UK and the beautiful city of York gives us the perfect background to show off some of our best work.
