The project will transform York Minster as a visitor attraction whil st conserving its world-class stonework and stained glass for generations to come.
York Minster Revealed is a five-year project generously supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and is scheduled for completion in 2016. City of York Council is providing a £500,000 investment for the works to the South Piazza area.
The project ties into the Reinvigorate York initiative to improve and enhance the quality of the citys public spaces.
Cllr Dave Merrett, Cabinet Member for Transport, Planning and Sustainability said: Along with the councils investment in the York Minster Revealed project, which ties into our Reinvigorate York initiative to redesign Exhibition Square and improve and enhance the quality of the citys public spaces, we are also supporting and investing in York Art Gallery and the refurbishment of St Leonards Place to transform this part of the city into a high quality cultural hub for York.
