More details

The legendary Steve Cassidy Band will be performing a benefit concert for York Racial Equality Network on November 4.

The band will be playing songs from their extensive repertoire, which encompasses rock and ballads from the sixties to the present and includes a number of original compositions.

Steve Cassidy (real name Norman Fowler) is from York and started his singing career at the age of 14, opening for a Cliff Richard concert. He later went on to become a three time winner of New Faces, the classic British television talent show broadcast throughout the 1970s

However, Steve Cassidy found fame before then. As a young man, he recorded with the film composer John Barry, who composed the scores for 11 James Bond films and later wrote the Grammy and Academy Award-winning scores to the films Dances with Wolves and Out of Africa.

For fans of the 60s, Steve Cassidy had a 1963 hit with Ecstasy, which was penned by Marty Wilde and Mike Pratt. Mike later found fame as a star of the cult TV series Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased).

Director of York Racial Equality Network Rita Sanderson said: “We are absolutely delighted that the Steve Cassidy Band will be supporting York Racial Equality Network with a great night of music.

“All the money raised will support the work of the organisation, which offers practical help, advocacy and emotional support for victims of racial harassment, victimisation, discrimination and isolation.”

Doors open 7.30pm. and tickets are £8 in advance (£5 concessions) or £10 on the door. Advance tickets are available from [email protected] or by calling 01904 642600.
