Children’s Services leaders at City of York Council have welcomed government figures which show that York schools are continuing to make good progress in the Key Stage 2 tests.
The Department for Education (DfE) today (13 Dec) published final results for the June 2012 Key Stage 2 tests for 11 year olds. For York, these results show that:
Results at Level 4+ (the expected level of achievement for 11 year olds) – In English, 85% of pupils achieved Level 4 or above (inline with the national average) and in maths the figure was also 85% (1 percentage point above the national average). In addition, 80% of pupils achieved the expected level in both English and maths combined (1 percentage point above the national average.)
Results at Level 5+ (the higher level) are all significantly above the national average and place the York as the best-performing authority in the region. In English, 41% of pupils achieved Level 5+ (3 percentage points above the national average) and in maths the figure was 43% (4 percentage points above the national average).
Progress results (pupils are expected to make at least 2 levels of progress between Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.) In York, 90% of pupils made at least 2 levels of progress in English and 88% did in maths. Both these results are 1 percentage point above the national results.
There have been some real success stories for individual schools and pupils which show that York pupils continue to excel at school.
Janet Looker, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education, at City of York Council, said: “I am really pleased and proud with these results that show that York’s primary schools continue to perform excellently. Standards continue to rise across the country and I am delighted that York’s results are in many cases above national figures.
“The hard work of pupils and staff has produced really positive results right across the city. We recognise the support of parents and the collective efforts of a range of partner organisations in these achievements, which really do help ensure our children in York have the best possible start in life.”
