Hundreds of women, children and men joined the women’s march through York on Saturday (January 21).

The impressive turnout sent a strong message that ours is a city that values and promotes equality, diversity and tolerance.

One of hundreds of marches across the world in response to the inauguration of President Donald Trump, organiser Cindy Campbell said it sent a message:

one of hope, one of unity and one of love.

We cannot live in a world that is built on hatred, waiting with apprehension and trepidation, wondering when the next blow will strike and who it will affect.

This is about more than Donald Trump.

Some have been fighting for a lifetime for equality, some may be roused to action after the events in 2016, but we are rallying in unity and solidarity with a deafening roar; we will be heard.

As these posts and pictures show, the message came across loud and clear…

Today we marched beside hundreds of other men, women and children to show that we all stand with America at this difficult time, you are not alone and we are fighting this battle with you. Big Feminist and Tiny Feminist marched for the girls today. Proud to teach my kids that feminism is not about women coming first, it's about women not coming second #womensmarch #womensmarchyork

So many people turned out for the amazing #womensmarchyork today. Such a privilege to sing to you all before we started walking! Beautiful speeches, powerful women, and an important message: what affects one woman affects us all. I think my favourite part was seeing 3 boys, about 12 years old, marching together and holding their signs aloft. We're all standing with you, America: we grab back #womensmarch #sistermarch #women #power #solidarity #sisters #pussygrabsback #york #mycity #loudandproud
