21 years linking Selby and London – Now Hull Trains add extra services

The train operator that links Selby to London says it’s adding a seventh round trip to the timetable on weekdays and an extra service on Sunday.

The ‘open access’ operator, badly hit during the lockdowns when it was forced to suspend its timetable, is growing again and celebrating 21 years of linking Hull and Selby to the capital.

Selby station was once a stop on the East Coast Main Line but after 1983, when the 125mph diversion via Hambleton was opened, train serices to London were gradually cut back to just one a day.

In 2000 Hull Trains started running and a more frequent direct link to London was restored.

In the first year of operation, 3 daily trains carried 80,000 passengers to their destination marking the importance of a direct rail service connecting the Humber region to the capital.

The new timetable in December will give Selby passengers an earlier journey from London and a later one back in the evening on weekdays.

Some services will also have extra coaches added too and an extra journey will be added on Sunday as well.
