17-year-old threatened at knifepoint in York robbery

A 17-year-old boy was robbed at knifepoint in York on Saturday (March 14).

The boy was on Salisbury Terrace between 7.30pm and 8pm when he was approached by a man wearing dark glasses.

The man threatened him with a knife before fleeing the scene with the victim’s Nokia Lumia mobile phone.

The boy was not injured during the incident.

Police would like anyone who saw what happened, or has any information, to come forward.

The suspect is…

white
around 30 years of age
about 6ft tall
with a stocky build.

He was wearing

black jogging bottoms
a black Nike hooded top with a small red and white Nike logo, pulled up around his face with draw strings
grey Nike trainers.

Anyone who witnessed the attack or can help identify the suspect is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police via the options below.

As someone who lived in Manchester for 16 years before moving to around York I’m amazed this even made the news. This is just evidence that York is an incredibly safe city. It’s not a good thing that this teenager was threatened, but they were THREATENED, not stabbed, not injured, scared witless probably, but they’ll recover. I loved Manchester, and worked in the fracture clinic there and was faced with a wide variety of gun shot and knifing wounds, frequently. Be thankful that you love somewhere where this is worth reporting
