A popular York pub has reopened with a whole new look and new management team.
The Stonebow is officially open from today (Monday) after a successful soft launch over the weekend.
Found on the corner of Fossgate, it was previously home to sports bar The Terrace. It is owned by the company Stonegate Group.
Following a £300,000 investment, the Stonebow is aiming to be a pub for everyone.
Built in 1957, it was originally called the Stonebow, before being renamed the Boulevard and then the Terrace.
YorkMix spoke with manager Joe Sophocleous to find out more.
“In terms of the way it looks, it’s much more open and a lot nicer,” said Joe. “A difference is that it’s a little bit more entertainment lead now.”
On Monday nights will be a quiz night, a poker night on Tuesdays, and a student society night on Wednesdays.
Thursdays will be a games night – which could be board games one week, and the next a FIFA tournament or Mario Kart race. Fridays will be live music, and over the weekend the Stonebow will host DJs and more live music.
“It’ll be a bit more lively than it previously was – but still with a massive focus on sport.
“We want to retain the Terrace’s sport reputation.”
There are nine screens up to 85 inches wide, and all the audio visuals have been upgraded. There are three Sky boxes, which means multiple channels can be shown at once.

The revamping of the pub has been “quite a long process.” Though the venue was only shut for four weeks for the renovation, the recruitment and training processes had taken longer, with Joe starting work on the project around 12 weeks ago.
However it’s been “incredibly smooth so far.”
“The team are brilliant,” said Joe.
Four team members have stayed on with the changing of management and the rest is a new team, with the venue creating 28 jobs.
Drinks on offer include a wide variety on draft, 2 for 1 cocktails, spirits, wines, and soft drinks.
“We’re always happy to order things in for guests if they want something in particular.”
Food offerings include small plates, wings, burgers, pub classics, lunch options and more.
The reaction so far has been “brilliant.”
“A lot of people coming in are saying it looks completely different and are really impressed – everyone’s been quite wowed by it.”
The Stonebow is hoping to appeal to a wider age range with the revamped venue.
“We’re looking at what we can do and how we can help people, and be more community driven.”
The Stonebow is open every day from 11am to 11pm, and until 12am on Fridays and Saturdays.
