A new café, deli and wine shop, 2 Many Wines, has opened on East Parade in Heworth.
This is its second location – the first, a wine shop and tasting room on Bishopthorpe Road, opened in 2021 and is flourishing.
The Heworth café and deli serves food all day, such as pastries and coffee, brunch and lunch, as well as evening meals. It also has an extensive wine list, with wine available to buy in store.
2 Many Wines opened in Heworth last month. It was previously home to coffee shop Bean on the Green.
It was a long-held dream of founders of 2 Many Wines, Cyriaque Lajoinie and Beniamino Berluti, to open their own wine shop – and after holding wine tasting sessions on Zoom during the pandemic and opening their first pop-up wine shop at The Gillygate pub, their dream was realised after a building became available on Bishopthorpe Road.
Now, Cyriaque has grasped another opportunity in Heworth.
“The owner of Bean on the Green wanted to get out of the business and asked us if we would like to take over,” Cyriaque explained. “At the time we were not looking for anywhere to go because we were quite happy with the way things were going.
“But we thought it was a good opportunity to press.”
The process took just over six months, with the agreement to take over the building happening in July last year. The paperwork was finalised in November, with refurbishments taking place in December before opening on 16 January.
Cyriaque himself actually lives in Heworth. “I always wanted a place where I could find some fresh bread or buy some really nice charcuterie or cheese, by shopping independently and not having to take the car. And have a good coffee, some good wines, and if I wanted to have some food in a restaurant.
“There was nothing like this – so it was created, basically.”

2 Many Wines Heworth serves food all day, and is open for brunch, lunch and evening meals.
“The dishes that we do are quite international,” said Cyriaque, who is himself French. “We have French, Italian, Spanish and we use elements of a lot of different cultures like Greek, Mediterranean, Moroccan and Turkish.
“The dishes are always simple, well-presented and tasty – that’s really the motto. It doesn’t need to be complicated; we’re not a fine dining restaurant, we’re a regular cafe and wine bar.”
The brunch menu includes classics such as Eggs Benedict (£10.50) and Croque Madame (£12), as well as Croissant Salato (with parma ham and mozzarella, £7) and Italian Flat Bread Tigelle (with mozzarella and pistachio or goat cheese and courgette, £11).
The a la carte menu includes a charcuterie and cheese platter to share (£17.95), sea bass (16.95), tuna steak (£17.95) and a traditional French dish called Socca – a gluten free and vegan dish which is made with chickpea flour, roasted vegetables and “you cannot find it anywhere else in York.”
The menu also has a ‘raw bar’ with steak or fish tartare and carpaccio. There is also a changing specials board of savoury and sweet dishes. The ingredients are from local suppliers such as Fowlers, M&K Butchers and Simon Baynes.
They will also soon be starting Sunday lunches. “Instead of doing just a roast or something else, we’re going to do a dish from Portugal for example, and from Spain and see which one’s the most popular and bring it back – to do a community type of vote.”
The wines are from all over the world, with prices starting from £12 all the way to £70. There are two wine lists – one that’s wine by the glass, with a selection of whites, reds, roses and sparkling.
“But we’ve got all the shelves where the wines are priced at shop price, which means that you are going to buy the wine and take it away. If you drink it in you pay the exact same price with the addition of £10 corkage – which is a super good value.”
The drinks menu also includes hot drinks, soft drinks, beers and cider, spirits and cocktails too.
“Everyone can find something here,” said Cyriaque.
2 Many Wines Heworth is currently open six days a week (Tuesday to Sunday), but will also be open on Mondays very soon. Opening times are 10am-10:30pm, and it closes at 3:30pm on Sundays. It has created 10 jobs.
