A York secondary school has confirmed its first case of coronavirus.
Vale of York Academy, which teaches about 600 students aged between 11 and 16, sent a letter out to parents yesterday.
It said: “We have been made aware of a member of our school community who has tested positive for Covid-19.
“We know that you may find this concerning but we are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England.”
Anyone who has been in direct prolonged contact with the confirmed case has been identified, contacted individually and instructed to self isolate.
YorkMix understands that it is a student from Year 8.
The school remains open and all other children should continue to attend if they remain well.
Vale of York Academy Principal, Toby Eastaugh said “We know that parents and families may find this concerning but the necessary measures have been taken in line with the government guidance and we continue to work closely with Public Health England.”
