What do James Bond, a giant teapot, Yoda, a turtle and an ice-skating Viking have in common?
They are all the subjects of York’s first city-wide Ice Trail.

Live ice carving
Visitors will have the chance pose as James Bond at a 007 themed sculpture at the Chapter House Bar at the Royal York Hotel.
The ice sculptures are created by a team from Glacial Art. They will be demonstrating live ice carving in St Helen’s Square at 3pm each day.
Also in St Helen’s Square an ice Wishing Well, sponsored by Yorkshire Water, will be raising money for the charity Water Aid.
Bradley’s Jewellers are running a competition to win the platinum certified diamond ring embedded in their diamond ice sculpture. Guess the ring’s value and it could be yours.
On Micklegate you’ll find a go-kart frozen in ice, in anticipation of the traders’ Micklegate Run Soap Box Challenge planned for next summer.
Visitors to the Ice Trail will also have a chance to win two York Passes, a five star stay at the Grand Hotel and Spa and a dinner offered by Turtle Bay restaurant.
Kate McMullen from Make It York said they’d like people to share their photos on Twitter using #yorkchristmas and @visityork.
With thirty bespoke sculptures across the city we hope everyone will have a favourite they would like to share.
The Ice Trail weekend is a new addition this year to York’s St Nicholas Christmas Festival, which runs until December 23.
It comes after the Festival Of Angels, established and run by traders in York’s Quarter, was cancelled in 2014 owing to a lack of funds.
