Lock up your rockers – the mod squad are moving in!
A corner of York will be flying the Union flag for British style with the opening of a new fashion store on Thursday (March 24).
Lambretta Clothing is taking over the former Phones4U premises at the junction of Spurriergate and High Ousegate – its first northern shop.
Its most popular sellers include polo T-shirts, Harrington jackets and, in winter, parka coats. Crew neck T-shirt prices start at £20.
Most of the range is aimed at men, although the shop does sell women’s footwear.
It will be expanding into womenswear later this year, brand owner Glenn Briers told YorkMix. It already sells clothes for kids.
York is ‘fantastic for us’
“We think York will be fantastic for us. It’s a good shopping town,” Glenn said. “There’s a real interest in the scooter and mod scene up here too.
“York is a little bit like Carnaby Street – it’s a tourist destination both for people in Britain and abroad.”
Glenn said the mod scene and associated looks spanned the generations.
“It’s going from strength to strength. There are plenty of guys between 40 and 60 into it, but the kids are into it too – lads and dads.”
The opening of Lambretta Clothing will create about ten jobs. And the company is recruiting. Interested? Email them your CV.
