A man in his 70s was seriously hurt in a five-car crash which closed the A64 near York.
The road was shut in both directions around Sand Hutton after the accident, which happened at about 6.35pm on Wednesday (November 4).
Three stationary cars travelling towards York were hit by a fourth car. This vehicle then spun onto the opposite carriageway hitting a fifth vehicle travelling the other way.
One man in his 70s, travelling in a Citroen Berlingo, was taken to LGI with serious injuries.
Four other people suffered slight injuries.
Six hour closure
Emergency services were at the scene for six hours. The road reopened at 1.40am on Thursday.
The other cars involved were a BMW, Citroen Zara, Renault Megane and Renault Clio.
Queues built up in both directions. Police diverted south/ westbound traffic off the A64 at Claxton taking local routes to the A166 to re-join A64 near York.
North/ eastbound traffic was diverted via the A1237 to Earswick.
