Several members of the public alerted the fire service after hearing loud bangs and seeing large amounts of black smoke this morning (Tuesday).
Crews from Helmsley, Pickering and Malton went to the incident at 11.05am, which turned out to be a tractor fire on land north of Helmsley.
They put out the flames, but the tractor was destroyed in the fire.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “A thermal image camera was also used to check for hot spots, and crews remained on scene to dampen down the area to stop any potential fire spread.
“The cause was believed to be an electrical fault.”
