A helicopter seen hovering over York city centre for some time today (Thursday) wasn’t with the police.
Although the aircraft was in the distinctive black and yellow associated with the National Police Air Service (NPAS), it wasn’t one of theirs.
It caught the eye of many residents, visitors and shoppers as it circled and hovered over Micklegate and out to the west of the city at lunchtime.
The helicopter is in fact registered to PDG Aviation Services.
Their website says they provide helicopter lifting, filming and charter services.
The livery of the helicopter flying over York is similar to the ones used but the police. But it is in fact a different model of Airbus helicopter, which is not flown by the National Police Air Service.
It may be connected to a black unmarked car that was reported to have received a police escort along Hull Road at about the same time.
